Toyota Venza priced from $25,975

Toyota Venza

It's been almost a year since Toyota debuted its new Venza crossover at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, and we've heard nary a peep since. With the launch of the V6 model only a month away, though, we've finally received pricing info. The rather ungainly looking Venza will start at $25,975 with Toyota's new 2.7L four-cylinder engine and front-wheel-drive, and top out at $29,250 for the 3.5L V6 model with AWD. This makes the Venza's pricing very close to its competition from Nissan and Ford, though Toyota's model is the only one available with a four-cylinder engine.

Standard features on the Venza include traction and stability control plus plenty of safety features, and the options list looks like it came straight from Lexus. Some of the dollar figures on those options are Lexus-like, as well. DVD Navigation with upscale JBL sound will set you back $2,590, and just the upgraded stereo will cost an additional $1,090. Toyota also offers four levels of luxury packaging ranging from $1,600 for leather seats to $4,345 for a package with leather, HID headlights, mahogany wood finishes and heated mirrors.

Drag race between ZR1, 599, GT-R and GT2

If we came up with a list of our top "Best Day EVER" scenarios, we're pretty sure a straight-line race between the Corvette ZR1, Ferrari 599 GTB, Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT2 would be close to the top of our list. The scribes at Motor Trend were able to live that dream, but they threw us a bone by recording the supercar showdown for the world to see. Follow the jump to see the 638-hp ZR1 take on some of the best street metal from Italy, Germany, and Japan. We watched the video four times, if only to note the stark difference between the launches and finishes of four distinctly different supercars. And just for fun, write down your projected 1-4 finish and let us know how you fared in the post-jump comment section.

GM bringing Pontiac G8 ST concept

Pontiac G8 ST concept

Pontiac's G8 ST will likely not be used much for hauling joists and sonotubes, and General Motors took note of that before preparing one for SEMA. Instead, the concept has been dolled up with goodies that may make it to the GM Accessories catalog once the G8 ST goes on sale in late 2009. The most visible enhancements are on the outside. The paint is called Liquid Hot, and custom 20-inch wheels handsomely stuff the fenders. Making the car look more menacing is a reduced ride height, too. Inside, interior tweaks dress up the seats, the steering wheel and the shift knob with red inserts, and GM Accessories is contemplating making the custom interior trim kit and hard tonneau cover on the SEMA car available for purchase. With its vestigial bed and big V8, we predict the G8 ST will be hauling mostly ass.

Audi TT-S starts at $45,500

Audi TT-S

Audi announced today that pricing for its U.S.-spec TT-S will begin at $45,500 for the Coupe model and $47,500 for the open-air Roadster. The TT-S joins the TT 2.0T and TT 3.2 in Audi's lineup, settling atop the range with a turbocharged, direct-inject 2.0L TFSI engine producing 265 hp @ 6,000 RPM and 258 lb-ft of torque. That's 15 more horsepower and 22 more lb-ft of torque than the TT with Audi's 3.2L V6. The TT-S Coupe also manages to hit 60 mph in an impressive 4.9 seconds while achieving a combined fuel economy rating of 24 mpg. Top speed for both the Coupe and Roadster, however, will be electronically limited to 155 mph. For their money, buyers will also get Audi's S tronic dual-clutch transmission, magnetic ride suspension and the brand's trademark quattro all-wheel-drive system.

If the TT-S is still not fast enough for you, the TT-RS is on its way. While it may not make it to U.S. shores, the TT-RS will pack a 2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder producing 340 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque, which will be mated to a six-speed manual and quattro all-wheel-drive. 0-60 times for the TT-RS are expected to drop even further down to 4.5 seconds. Expect the price to also go up even further in turn.

PRESS RELEASE

Audi Sets 2009 MY Prices for the All-New TTS Coupe and TTS Roadster

HERNDON, Va., Oct. 31, 2008 -- Audi of America today released pricing for the highest performing TT models ever brought to market - the 2009 TTS Coupe and TTS Roadster. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for the TTS Coupe will start at $45,500 and $47,500 for the TTS Roadster.

"The Audi TTS Coupe and the TTS Roadster are genuine sports cars that provide remarkable driving experiences and striking design," said Johan de Nysschen, executive vice president of Audi of America. "When these top-of-the-line models reach dealerships later this year, consumers will quickly discover that TTS also stands for exceptional value compared to its competition in the sports car segment."

Building on TT innovations, the TTS models deliver unparalleled performance with the most powerful engine in the TT lineup, superior traction with standard quattro all-wheel drive, extraordinary shift times with the standard S tronic dual clutch transmission, and enhanced driver control with TTS-specific Audi magnetic ride. Audi will begin selling the TTS models in late 2008.

The ultra-efficient, direct-injected, turbocharged 2.0 TFSI engine rewards TTS Coupe owners with both class-leading acceleration and fuel economy. The TTS Coupe races from 0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds, and achieves a combined fuel economy of 24 mpg. The TTS Roadster offers comparable performance with a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds and a class-leading combined fuel economy of 24 mpg. Both versions of the TTS achieve an exceptional 29 mpg in highway driving and 21 mpg in city driving based on government fuel-economy ratings. The electronically governed top track speed for the TTS is 155 mph.

The new 2.0 TFSI engine in the TTS produces excellent horsepower (265 hp @ 6000 rpm) and exceptional torque (258 lb.-ft. @2500-5000 rpm), while meeting California's rigorous ULEV II ultra-low emissions standards. With that kind of performance the TTS models demonstrate Audi's strategy of offering cars that respect the environment without sacrificing the thrill of driving.

To transfer that performance to the ground, the standard quattro all-wheel drive system has been specifically matched to the TTS to allow for even faster response times. The TTS models also come standard with Audi's advanced S tronic dual clutch transmission with Audi launch control which is capable of 0.2-second shift times and optimized acceleration from a standstill. In addition, new suspension treatments for the TTS models result in heightened driver control and handling characteristics. The TTS models benefit from new lightweight aluminum suspension components and modified suspension mounts resulting in a 10-millimeter lowered chassis. The Audi magnetic ride system, standard in the TTS, has been modified specifically for the TTS models to enhance driving dynamics while still retaining occupant comfort. The system features continuously adjustable damping along with "Sport" and "Normal" modes for further driver control. Audi has also updated the TTS steering system to match the suspension modifications. As with all TT models, the TTS is built with an aluminum and steel Audi Space Frame, which offers high torsional rigidity, better load distribution and is up to 48% lighter in weight than equivalent steel construction.

Of course, TT models have always presented stunning design, and the TTS maintains that tradition. The new models feature xenon plus headlights with Audi's signature LED daytime running lights. In addition, as with all S series models in the Audi family, TTS models feature distinctive characteristics indicative of the S model bloodline. These include larger front air intakes, Platinum Gray grille with chrome optic finish, aluminum optic exterior mirrors, extended rocker panels, Platinum Gray rear diffuser with silver blade, quad exhaust pipes, TTS painted brake calipers with sport-rated brake pads, TTS badging, and a TTS-specific 18-inch wheel with summer performance tires. A unique 19-inch quattro GmbH wheel is also available. The marriage of form and function continues throughout the interior of the TTS with features such as brushed aluminum inlays, a die-cast magnesium flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel with multifunction controls, aluminum optic S tronic shift paddles, a unique TTS instrument cluster, a driver information system with digital lap timer, a redesigned S tronic shift knob, racing inspired leather Alcantara sport seats, contrasting color stitching and TTS badging throughout the interior. Distinctive two-tone Silk Nappa leather seating surfaces are available as an option.

Official details on the Hamann SLR Volcano

Hamann SLR Volcano

After teasing us with a video montage of the Hamann Volcano, the tuner has finally released details on its reworked Mercedes McLaren SLR supercar.

With 5.4-liters of supercharged displacement to work with, Hamann turned up the boost with a new pulley, custom exhaust manifolds and tuned ECU to bring output up to 700 hp and 612 lb.-ft. of torque – an increase of 74 hp and 37 lb.-ft., respectively. In order to keep temps in check, Hamann added an additional water pump, and to make better use of the extra grunt, fiddled with the transmission's control unit. The 0-60 time is down to 3.6 seconds and top speed is now nine mph faster than the standard SLR and seven mph faster than the 722 edition.

Carbon fiber pieces replace the front and rear wings and the side skirts, while a new hood, diffuser and front spoiler all do there best to keep things as slippery as possible under speed. EDITION RACE 21-inches wheels are fitted at all four corners and wrapped in 255/30 (front) and 345/25 (rear) rubber. In addition to two color choices – aluminum/chrome or white/matte – owners can choose from new aluminum pedals, door sills and headrests emblazoned with Hamann logos, along with carbon fiber and Alcantara trim for the dash, center console, steering wheel and sun visors.

PRESS RELEASE

HAMANN VOLCANO

The serial Mercedes-Benz SLR is already one of the most impressive cars on our roads – but compared to the HAMANN VOLCANO it still looks rather harmless. Once again, HAMANN-Motorsport proves its cutting edge when it comes to refining superb sports cars. From a lift-reducing body design to a powerful performance enhancement to a lavishly styled interior, HAMANN focuses on all components of this luxury car and makes the automobile dreams of its exclusive clientele come true.

The total makeover of the Laupheim-based refiner is made of extremely light full carbon and consists of front- and rear wing extensions and also new side skirt attachments and sheathings. The front view of the Volcano is optically perfected with a newly designed bonnet which enhances the overall impression by its integrated hood scoop. But also for the rear, the refining technicians implemented new ideas giving the SLR appearance its finishing touch. Under the boot lid cover, HAMANN placed a strong diffuser which improves the car´s output in combination with the large rear wing. At the front axle, a newly developed front spoiler renders the necessary contact pressure. If desired, an especially developed overall paint for the VOLCANO in either aluminium/chrome or white/matt completes the striking appearance of this bolide.

The 21-inch rims named EDITION RACE with tyres measuring 255/30ZR21 at the front and 345/25ZR21 at the back render an optimal road grip. The design of the extraordinary light forged wheel thereby combines vitality and elegance and also perfectly fills out the wheel houses.

The HAMANN makeover is not only sportive, but also has a lot to offer under the bonnet. The HAMANN motor technicians get the most out of the Mercedes Benz V8-aggregate (5.4 litres, 626 hp, 780 Nm): 700 hp / 515 kW and a maximum torque of 830 Nm at 3,300 crankshaft revolutions per minute. The therefore necessary modifications include a newly programmed control unit, especially developed high performance exhaust manifolds and an amended belt pulley combination for the serial compressors. In order to facilitate the increased motor performance, HAMANN adds a second water pump and adjusts the gearbox electronics. Invigorated in this way and with the adequate sound from the six end pipes of the sport exhaust system, the VULCANO accelerates from naught to a hundred in only 3.6 seconds. With a maximum speed of 348 km/h, the HAMANN VOLCANO is 14 km/h faster than the serial model.

The HAMANN product even beats the factory-provided performance-enhanced special series SLR 722 by impressive 11 km/h.

A skillfully refined interior is waiting for the VOLCANO-pilot and also the exterior does not rank behind. The overall makeover contains pedals and foot rests in aluminium as well as noble door sill protectors and headrests with embossed embroidered HAMANN-Logos. They can also be found on the exclusive floor mats. The overall makeover can be enhanced with a HAMANN interior set containing custom-made carbon parts for the dashboard and centre console. If desired, also the roof interior, all pillars, the cockpit including the steering wheel and the sun visors can hereby be adjusted in terms of colour. Therefore, HAMANN solely uses the high-quality material Alcantara.

Subaru to show off Forester XTI and Mountain Rescue Vehicle

Subaru Forester XTI
Subaru's Forester has long been considered one of the few sporting 'utes, and the automaker is ready to build on that image with a new Forester XTI concept, set to debut at the SEMA Show. Those interested in outward appearances will note the "Atmospheric Re-Entry paint scheme" (their words, not ours), JDM body kit, lower front spoiler and mesh front grille. It's the underpinnings that get us really excited, though. Under the skin, the Forester XTI gets the full Subaru Technica International treatment from the firm's amazing WRX STI, including its 2.5-liter turbocharged and intercooled boxer four powerplant, mated to a six speed manual transmission and, of course, all-wheel-drive. A cat-back exhaust helps bump out to 315 hp and torque to 300 lb-ft, meaningful improvements over the stock engine's ratings of 300-horsepower and 290 lb-ft. We'd love to see this one make it to the showroom floor.

Accompanying the XTI at Subie's booth is the Mountain Rescue Vehicle, which was purpose-built for the National Ski Patrol, of which Subaru is the Official Vehicle. Custom touches include an adjustable Air Lift suspension that allows for a maximum of 14-inches of ground clearance. Under the wheel arches sit 30x9.5-in. Yokohama Geolandar MTS tires on custom 15-in. reversed near-zero offset steel wheels. Skid plates and a winch complete the off-road modifications and are accompanied by a bevy of lights and a near glow-in-the-dark hue. The drivetrain doesn't see any modifications, but the stock turbo-mill ought to be up to the task anyway.

Group Five Limited builds Challenger Speedster

Group Five Limited builds Challenger Speedster

Aftermarket companies have plans to take the Challenger in directions that Dodge isn't willing to go, first and foremost by stripping off its top. Dodge won't be doing the deed itself due to cost and weight considerations, but for those lovers of open-air motoring with deep enough pockets, anything can be done. We've already posted on the first such example that's headed for the upcoming SEMA Show in Vegas, which will come from Coach Builders Ltd. and appears to be a pretty straightforward roof-removal. Now we've caught wind that a second Challenger convertible is headed to Sin City from Group Five Limited. This Challenger 'vert comes sans top and with a cut-down windshield for that classic "speedster" profile. Other body mods clean up the front and rear fascias for a true shaved, custom look. Take a look at the two renderings below for an early peek at what to expect when we hit the floor of SEMA next week.
